MODEMAT researcher PhD. Tuomo Valkonen, together with Christian Clason, has published the book Introduction to Nonsmooth Analysis and Optimization as part of the MOS-SIAM Series on Optimization (2026) by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
The book presents theoretical foundations and methods in nonsmooth analysis and optimization, including generalized derivatives, optimality conditions, and numerical algorithms for nonsmooth optimization problems. It also discusses applications in inverse problems, imaging, optimal control, partial differential equations (PDEs), and data science.
This publication contributes to the advancement of research in applied mathematics and mathematical optimization, areas in which MODEMAT promotes high-level scientific and academic activities.
